The absolute winner in the senior group was Aleksei Shishkin. School students representing Moscow and Moscow region at the International Astronomy Olympiad earned four medals.

The team of students from Moscow and the Moscow Region won gold, silver and bronze medals at the International Astronomy Olympiad. One more silver medal was won by the schoolgirl competing as a member of the Russian team. The students coped with theory and practice, and also participated in the observation round.

“Such victories of our children are a great incentive to study astronomy which might seem outdated to someone. However, in reality, it is a rapidly growing science the study of which requires extensive knowledge. And mastering it with the help of modern technologies that are used by Moscow schools nowadays is much more exciting,” Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence Ivan Yashchenko said.

The Competition was held in Colombo (Sri-Lanka) in the period from October, 7 to October, 13.

A qualification round of Moscow Olympiad in Astronomy starts in December.
